Meet Ivor, Head of Delivery
Leading projects with a calm resolve, excellent communication, planning, collaboration, and stakeholder alignment.
Today, we introduce you to Ivor, the Head of Delivery at Eyekiller, a seasoned professional whose journey through various roles has equipped him with the tools to tackle the dynamic demands of project delivery.
Tell us a bit about your previous experience?
With over 10 years of industry experience, I have held diverse roles in project management and operations. I have a proven track record of successfully delivering and managing projects on time and on budget, ensuring quality standards through strong project governance and team leadership, previously working with global brands and large sports organisations, such as Microsoft, Heineken and the Gaelic Athletic Association.
What inspired your decision to join Eyekiller?
Upon first encountering the opportunity and engaging in a conversation with Jamie, the Managing Director, I found myself immediately interested.
Hearing the challenge that was being presented to me, the impressive journey of the company over the past two decades, as well as the extensive list of high profile clients the company has attracted over the years, left a profound impression. In addition to this, I also sensed a thriving company culture at EK, supported by the fact that some employees have remained with the company for approximately 15 years!
If you were to relate your management style to a fictional character, who would it be and why?
Since I’m a fan and I’m currently working on delivering a project for the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, I’ve chosen Jon Snow from GoT. Throughout the tv series, he consistently displayed strong leadership qualities, as he often led by example. He was calm under pressure and remained composed, often making rational decisions even in high-pressure situations and he was also a team player that recognised the importance of teamwork and collaboration. All of which are key leadership traits that I feel can relate to in some way.
Can you share your approach to effective project management?
I believe excellent communication, careful planning and constant observation are required to manage projects effectively. As well as ensuring that all project stakeholders involved are aligned and working towards the same objectives, values and goals. This can be achieved with constant communication, collaboration, transparency and accountability. Ultimately, it’s the project managers responsibility to ensure that happens.
If you were to swap roles for a day, which role would you choose and why?
In Eyekiller, I would most like to swap to a development role for the day. It would be interesting to be more involved from a technical perspective getting a better insight and understanding into how our websites are built from the ground up, right through to completion - I think I’d enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a website come to life knowing I built it from scratch.
Any hobbies, or something you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to keep fit and active so after work or on the weekends, I’ll often go for hikes or to the gym. I’m also a big Manchester United fan and I regularly go to games at Old Trafford, however, the less said about that at the moment, the better…
In your opinion, what's the balance between delivering projects on time and fostering creative innovation?
The balance between delivering projects on time and fostering creative innovation depends on the specific project goals and constraints. Effective project management involves understanding these dynamics, aligning expectations, and making informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle to achieve the desired balance. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach and it may vary from one project to another.
What's the last podcast, book, or movie that left a significant impact on your perspective?
I like to frequently listen to podcasts such as the ‘Diary of a CEO’ and ‘The High Performance Podcast’. I’d recommend both as they offer valuable insights, inspiration, and practical advice from successful individuals in the business and high performance world. There have been many nuggets of advice from these podcasts which I have incorporated into my day-to-day role as Head of Delivery.
Lastly, what unique quality do you hope to bring to the Eyekiller team?
I believe that one of the unique qualities I can bring to the team is the ability to remain calm under pressure. In a fast paced industry like ours, unexpected challenges and high pressure situations can arise at any moment and when they do occur, I believe that maintaining composure and bringing a level head to such scenarios is an asset that can greatly benefit our team and the successful delivery of our projects.
