Meet Lewis, Front-End Developer
Get to know our latest recruit to the front-end development team.
Can you tell us about your journey into front-end development?
Back in 2012, I embarked on a bachelor's degree in Interactive Multimedia Design (IMD) at Ulster University, where I had to choose between Design, Front-end, or Back-end Development. I initially started with a placement in a small agency focusing on design. It was an enriching experience that introduced me to the Adobe Suite and honed my eye for the finer margins.
After completing my placement and spending further working with the agency, I realised design wasn't my forte, and neither were the intricate back-end languages. This led me to the middle ground of front-end development, a choice I made without regrets, as I found immense satisfaction in turning designs into functional websites.
Upon graduating, I joined a prestigious agency in England as a junior, working on projects ranging from large engineering firms to estate agents and smaller brochure-style websites. Following a few brief stints with other agencies that didn't align with my passion for attention to detail, I eventually found my way back to Eyekiller.
What do you enjoy most about working in this job?
The dynamic nature of the job means encountering new challenges every day, which pushes us 'front-enders' to continually expand our skill set and explore emerging technologies.
The endless opportunities for mixing creativity and innovation to find the perfect balance between design and development help keep me on my feet & brain ticking.
It's been great to bond with the eyekiller team on away-days too, like our recent outing to the Waterman House for a Mexican cooking masterclass, it was great craic!
What inspired your decision to join Eyekiller?
It's quite straightforward - Eyekiller's dedication to their craft, their impressive client portfolio, and the consistently high-quality work they produce. Their websites are not just visually appealing but also highly functional, responsive, and a cut above the rest.
How do you stay up-to-date on trends and technologies in front-end development?
Platforms like Awwwards, Behance, and Pinterest for inspiration. Awwwards, in particular, showcases experimental front-end projects that may not be practical but serve as a great source of inspiration and an insight into upcoming technologies, libraries, and web standards.
What’s your go-to playlist or genre of music when you’re deep into coding?
My music taste is vast, ranging from Millennial Punk to Country. But when it's time to get things done and focus, nothing beats a Cinematic Chillout playlist.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passions?
I make it a point to swim in the pool at least twice a week, switching to ocean swims when the weather permits. Once I get a minute from refurbishing my first house, I plan to spend more time surfing on the North Coast - anything water related or outdoors has my interest.
Lastly, what unique quality do you hope to bring to the Eyekiller team?
I pride myself on having great attention to detail and my strive to create intuitive, high-quality, efficient websites that prioritise user experience. Every project I start is approached with a fresh perspective, aiming to find innovative solutions to push the boundaries and leave the client with a website to be proud of.
